WHAT ARE BIOS? ITS FUNCTIONS - KNOW FULL INFORMATION

BIOS FULL INFORMATION

The first screen you see when you start a computer is the BIOS (BIOS), the full name of BIOS is Basic Input / Output System, also known as System BIOS or PC BIOS.

It is software associated with the motherboard which starts automatically as soon as the computer is started, identifies and configures the RAM, Processor, Key Board, Hard Disk etc. when the BIOS computer is turned on.

It is located in the ROM memory of our computer which identifies all the hardware of the computer. The BIOS is mainly used to boot the operating system of the computer, when the computer is turned on, the BIOS is done by you.

Checks the added CMOS setup and decides which device to boot the system from. And after preparing all of them, the operating system calls, only then our computer starts and we can use it.

The BIOS is already installed in every computer because programs in the CPU are installed only after the BIOS, it is installed inside the computer's non-volatile memory ie ROM that the chip is inserted into the motherboard of our computer.

We cannot delete it easily though it is an EEPROM (Electronically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory) type memory which can be electronically Erase and reprogram so that if there is a problem later if you upgrade the BIOS.

Functions of BIOS

Checking the BIOS setting

BIOS first checks the BIOS setting in CMOS. After the computer starts, it reads all the settings from CMOS so that everything can work properly.

Loading computer drivers

After that the BIOS computer drivers load. Which act as a base or interface between the operating system and connected devices.

Initialize computer registers

After that, the BIOS prepares all the Registers of our CPU to initialize properly.

Doing Power-On-Self-Test (POST)

After that BIOS tests all hardware and devices like Keyboard, Mouse, etc. This process is called POST or Power On Self Test.

BIOS setup

During the process of POST, we press a special key that opens a setting in front of us which we call the BIOS setting, this setting is the first thing BIOS loads.

Checking and loading the boot device

After that, the BIOS finds a BOOTABLE medium and then reads the bootable medium and loads the required files into RAM and only then our computer is on and we see the desktop.

What is CMOD

The full name of CMOS is Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor, it is a battery, which stores all the settings in the BIOS, and this is why the BIOS starts the Computer Booting Process. This is a small cell, due to which the date/time of the computer and all other basic information is saved. The BIOS settings are reset after the battery is exhausted or removed. You must have seen that even after the computer OFF, its time & date does not change, this is because the setting of time & date is stored in BIOS and it runs with CMOS Battery.

How to Open BIOS Setup

To open the BIOS setting, you have to restart your computer first, after restarting, you have to press any of the keyboard shortcut keys F2, F12, Delete, or Esc without taking any time after restarting the computer. As soon as you do, your computer's BIOS setting will open.
