WHAT ARE MOBILE TELEPHONE SWITCHING OFFICE?

What is the Mobile Telephone Switching Office?

The Mobile Telephone Switching Office, or MTSO, is a system that automatically relates to the cell phone user by monitoring readings from cell phone towers near the user. Keeps track of the signal.

The MTSO system automatically switches service from one cell phone tower to another, based on which the towers provide the best convenience to the user. Additionally, MTSO is responsible for connecting all individual cell phone users in a region to a "Central Office", which then connects those users to long-distance areas.

In the GSM system, the mobile handset used is called a mobile station. Cellular switching centers were known as MTSO in earlier analog telephone systems such as AMPS. Currently, MTSO is referred to in GSM as "MSC" or Mobile Services Switching Center. There are different types of handoffs or handovers. Most of them are controlled by MSC or MTSO.

A small network operator may employ only one MSC, whereas a large operator requires multiple MSCs. The MSC plays an important role in handover, particularly handovers involving multiple base station controllers - known as intra-BSC or intra-MSC handovers - as well as many MSCs, including inter. -MSC is called handover.

How does MTSO work?

MTSO systems monitor the relative position of each cell phone user by transmitting signals from all cell phone towers to the user that are received by the user's cell phone and transmitted back to each tower.

By monitoring the data quality as well as the time it takes for the signal to return to each tower, the MTSO assesses the relative reception of the user. Once the MTSO determines the reception relative to the user's cell phone and knows which tower is closest to the user, it automatically switches the user's cell phone to a specific tower to maximize reception. Benefits of MTSO

  • MTSO systems are beneficial because they allow cell phone users to experience the maximum amount of cell phone reception available without having to manually switch on each tower.
  • MTSO systems are also beneficial because they are almost instantaneous, monitoring the reception of the user's cell phone at all times.

Following are the work done by MTSO:

  • It serves as a handoff initiated by the mobile or BTS depending on the channel conditions as well as the movement of the mobile.
  • It provides mobile for PSTN subscriber connectivity.
  • An MTSO can serve more than one base station (ie BTS / BSC). The resulting handoff is too smooth for large coverage.
  • MTSO is responsible for providing connections of all mobile phone users with the Telephone Central Office. This makes long-distance communication possible.
