It makes visitors understand the website well and make the content easy to navigate.

Breadcrumbs make it easy for visitors to know which page or post of the website they are on. This is a factor of SEO.

Google's bots can also understand the website's structure well with the help of breadcrumb. This also supports our website in Ranking Improvement.

Let me give you an example; A boy goes to a forest to get some sweet apples and starts dropping his items So that he does not forget that road and can come back home quickly & easily; something similar happens with breadcrumbs too.

This shows the way from the website's home to a specific page or post to the visitors.

On which the visitors have visited. With the help of which visitors know on which page of the website they are.

Now you must have understood what breadcrumbs are, so let me tell you why it is essential for the website.

Why is it necessary to have breadcrumbs on our website?

You must have come to know that Breadcrumbs acts as a path for the website, due to which visitors understand your website well, and search engines also understand the structure of the website too.

So, when visitors come to any page of your website, they go to Home and other pages of the category as well; when they start spending more time, the bounce rate decreases.

Apart from this, the User Experience is also good, and the chances of Ranking Improvement increase.

Adding breadcrumbs to your website gives you many benefits, which I will tell further, so now you must understand why it is essential for the website.

Benefits of Breadcrumbs

1. Search Engines like the site with breadcrumbs.

2. It enhances the user experience.

3. It reduces bounce rates.

4. Keep People Onsite Longer

Types of Breadcrumbs

There are mainly 3 types of breadcrumbs -

  1. Location-Based Breadcrumbs
  2. Attribute-Based Breadcrumbs
  3. History-Based Breadcrumbs

Location-Based Breadcrumbs

The most common type of breadcrumbs that tell users where they are in the site structure and how to get back to the homepage.

Example: Home > Blog > Category > Post name.

Attribute-Based Breadcrumbs

This is commonly used on eCommerce sites to show what attributes the user has clicked.

Example: Home > Shoes > Hiking > Women's

History-Based Breadcrumbs

Show users what other pages on the site they have visited, like browser history.

For example, suppose you were searching for SEO news and read three different articles.

In that case, the breadcrumbs might look like Home > SEO article 1 > SEO article 2 > Current page.

Breadcrumb Tips to Make Your Site Easier to Navigate

  • Consider which type of breadcrumb navigation makes the most sense for your site.
  • Put the breadcrumbs in the top-left corner.
  • Use separators between breadcrumbs. Use symbol (>) ) OR forward-slash (/); you can see the image below to understand well.

Breadcrumb Tips

  • Deal with breadcrumbs differently on mobile

A lengthy breadcrumb pathway won't fit on a smartphone screen. And you don't want to force your mobile breadcrumbs to wrap, as it will push the main content down further on the page and frustrate the user.

So it's better to make it responsive with some CSS code.
